1 skein Brown Sheep Lamb’s Pride Bulky in color B
US 10.5, 16-inch circular needles
Set of US 10.5 double pointed needles to work the crown
Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
Clover Pom-Pom Maker in Size L
Gauge
12 stitches and 15 rows = 4 inches on US 10.5 needles
Notes
-Use the circular needles for the body of the hat, and switch to double pointed needles when shaping the crown.
This pattern uses the following stitches and abbreviations:
k- Knit
p- Purl
k2tog- Work a normal knit stitch through 2 loops at the same time instead of 1.
ssk- Slip, Slip, Knit- a left-slanting decrease worked by slipping two stitches in a row (but separately!) knitwise onto the right needle. Insert the left needle into the front of the two stitches from left to right. From here, wrap the yarn like a normal stitch and knit these 2 stitches together.
Pattern
Cast on 64 stitches on US 10.5 needles in color A using an elastic cast on method
Join in the round, placing stitch marker at beginning of round and being careful not to twist your stitches
Rib K2, P2 for 2 inches (if you want a shorter cuff or a longer folded cuff, change it here!)
Continue knitting in stockinette stitch until work measures 5” from cast on edge
Switch to color B, continue in stockinette stitch until work measures 7” from cast on edge
Decreases are worked as follows:
Row 1: *k1, ssk, k11, k2tog, place marker. Repeat from * until end of round
Row 2: knit
Row 3: *k1, ssk, knit to 2 stitches before marker, k2tog, slip marker. Repeat from * until end of round.
Repeat rows 2 & 3 until 16 stitches remain, switching to double pointed needles when there are too few stitches for circular needles.
Final row: k2tog 8 times (8 st remain)
Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread the tail onto your tapestry needle, pull firmly through the remaining stitches and down through the center of the hat. Weave in to secure the tail and trim the excess. Weave in and trim all loose ends.
Create the pom pom using your preferred method, leaving two long tails. We also carry Clover's Pom Pom maker to make this easier for you. Thread the tails onto the tapestry needle and pull firmly through center hole, weaving in each tail separately on opposite sides of center on the inside of your work.
